THE CURRENT PROBLEM
On July 1st, Hurricane Beryl struck the Windward Islands, severely impacting Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. The hurricane's 150mph winds caused extensive destruction, leaving most residents homeless and without livelihoods. The communities are grappling with immense losses and need urgent support to rebuild.
OUR SOLUTION
The foundation has contributed to the Hurricane Beryl relief efforts by providing financial support to the GoFundMe campaign organised by Esmond Joseph.
This campaign focuses on purchasing and shipping essential items such as non-perishable food, sanitary products, medical supplies, emergency equipment, and temporary shelter materials. These items are distributed by the Grenada National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) to ensure equitable and effective relief.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
IMMEDIATE RELIEF: Provision of essential items such as food, water, and medical supplies to meet urgent needs.
TEMPORARY SHELTER: Distribution of tents, tarpaulins, and other materials to provide safe and secure temporary housing.
EFFECTIVE DISTRIBUTION: Partnership with NaDMA ensures that aid reaches the most affected and vulnerable populations promptly.
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY: Regular updates and detailed records of expenditures and distributions to maintain donor trust and engagement.
CHALLENGES AND RISKS
LOGISTICAL ISSUES: Potential delays in shipping and distribution due to supply chain disruptions and transportation challenges.
CHANGING NEEDS: Continuous monitoring is required to adapt to the evolving needs on the ground and re-prioritise resources accordingly.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
CHECKING THE GOFUNDME PAGE: Regular monitoring of the GoFundMe page for updates and progress reports on the relief efforts.
CONCLUSION
The foundation's support for the Hurricane Beryl relief efforts in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique is a crucial step towards helping these communities recover and rebuild. By addressing immediate needs and ensuring effective distribution of aid, this project aims to restore hope and stability to those affected by the hurricane. The foundation will continue to monitor and support these efforts to ensure lasting impact and alignment with our humanitarian mission.
