St Luke School
Meal Support Project

2 people
THE CURRENT PROBLEM
Recent policy changes have led to the discontinuation of a government feeding program, leaving many children without reliable access to daily meals. The lack of consistent nutrition is anticipated to adversely affect the children’s overall health, school attendance rates, and educational outcomes.
OUR SOLUTION
The foundation will provide immediate relief, ensuring the provision of five nutritious meals a day to 294 children and staff, ensuring their basic dietary needs are met.
SUSTAINED SUPPORT: We aim to maintain this feeding program throughout the year, with possibilities for renewal based on the funding availability and community needs assessment.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: We will involve local stakeholders in the management and execution of the meal programs to build local capacity and sustainability.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The project will engage with local suppliers for the provision of the ingredients which will in turn support the local economy and will work closely with St Luke school to prepare a nutritious menu for the children and staff.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
HEALTH IMPROVEMENT: Enhanced health and nutritional status of the children and staff.
EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT: Improved school attendance and performance due to better nutrition.
ECONOMIC SUPPORT: Increased local economic activity due to the sourcing of food and materials from local vendors.
IMPACT MEASUREMENT AND REPORTING
NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENTS: Biannual health checks to monitor the nutritional status of children
SCHOOL REPORTS: Regular updates from the school on attendance and performance improvements.
ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDIES: Annual review of local economic benefits derived from the project.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK: Regular feedback sessions with the school to assess satisfaction and gather suggestions for improvement.
SUSTAINABILITY PLAN
While initial funding is secured for one year, the project will seek additional funding and potentially integrate agricultural programs involving local families to grow food sustainably. This approach aims to lessen future dependence on external funding and enhance community resilience.
CONCLUSION
The St Luke School Meal Support Project not only addresses the immediate nutritional needs of children and staff but also aims to foster a sustainable model that benefits the entire community. By focusing on both immediate and long-term strategies, the project embodies our foundation's commitment to transformative change that empowers communities from within.
