THE CURRENT PROBLEM
Residents of Bassodawish and its neighbouring villages have long faced severe challenges due to the lack of accessible clean water. This has impacted health, hindered socio-economic development, and forced community members to travel extensive distances for water, consuming substantial time and physical energy.
OUR SOLUTION
The Be11a JS Foundation funded the installation of a robust water tank and well in the heart of Bassodawish.
This infrastructure provides a sustainable source of clean water, accessible to all community members.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
ENSURE WATER ACCESS: Provide sustainable and reliable access to clean water for all 1,000 residents of Bassodawish.
IMPROVE HEALTH: Reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases through improved
water quality.
ENHANCE QUALITY OF LIFE: Minimise the time and effort spent by the residents in obtaining water, thus allowing more time for education and economic activities.
PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES: Implement and encourage long-term maintenance and care of water infrastructure by local stakeholders.
IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS
CONSTRUCTION: The project involved drilling a deep well to ensure a steady groundwater supply and erecting a large-capacity water tank that serves as a central reservoir. This infrastructure was designed to be robust and easy to maintain, using technology suitable for the local environment.
COMMUNITY TRAINING: Training sessions were conducted for local residents on the maintenance and sustainable use of the new water facilities to ensure longevity and effectiveness
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
DIRECT ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER: Immediate improvement in daily water access for all residents.
HEALTH IMPROVEMENTS: A measurable decrease in health issues related to poor water quality.
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL BENEFITS: Reduction in time spent fetching water from distant sources, allowing for increased productivity in other areas such as education and local business.
IMPACT MEASUREMENT AND REPORTING
WATER QUALITY MONITORING: Regular testing of the water supply for purity and safety.
HEALTH SURVEILLANCE: Collaboration with local health clinics to track changes in community health statistics.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK: Ongoing assessment through community feedback mechanisms to monitor satisfaction and gather input for future improvements.
SUSTAINABILITY PLAN
The sustainability of this project is ensured through the establishment of a community-managed fund for ongoing maintenance and potential future expansions. Additionally, partnerships with local organisations have been formed to support and sustain the initiative.
CONCLUSION
The installation of a water tank and well in Bassodawish by the Be11a JS Foundation represents a transformational step towards securing a healthier, more sustainable future for the community. This project not only meets immediate needs but also lays the groundwork for ongoing improvements in the overall well-being of the residents.
